Mr. Kissner: Stratex is about 19 years old. It started in 1984 and has evolved to one the larger suppliers of microwave transmissions systems around the world. We're truly global, having shipped about 2.5 billion of equipment to over 100 countries. We have now developed the capability to build complete wireless transmission systems that enable networks for a number of different applications, the largest of which are mobile wireless communications, fixed wireless communications and enterprise data connection.
TWST: Who is the typical customer?
Mr. Kissner: Typically, it would be a carrier who is selling wireless
service to business or consumers. There are over 150 customers all over
the world. Examples include Sprint, Vodafone, Orange and Telcel.
TWST: How does this fit into what's going on in the whole communications
world at this point in time?
Mr. Kissner: There are several ways. There are growth requirements in
all of these markets because people are using more wireless
communications. In the last year, when cap ex has been restricted due to
economic conditions, the usage of these networks has still been growing,
putting quite a bit of strain on them. Since these networks are usually
connected using microwave transmission systems like ours, there has been
a growing need to expand using microwave systems like ours, either
because of adding new customers or because of adding new services like
data.
