TWST: We would like to begin with a brief historical sketch of Art
Technology Group (ATG) and a picture of the things you're doing at the
present time. Ms. Bradley: ATG powers high-end e-commerce sites with applications that
include a core commerce engine, along with corresponding e-marketing and
customer care applications. We provide these solutions to the world's
most customer-centric enterprises. Think of us as offering the complete
e-commerce lifecycle ' from demand creation to shopping cart conversion
to integrated customer care. Our technology is available with on-
premise, licensed software and also as an on-demand, subscription based
or hosted service. We were founded in 1991, we IPOed in 1999, and we are
headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. TWST: What is the competitive landscape like, and what are your
competitive advantages? Ms. Bradley: According to Gartner, the market is about a $10 billion
market and growing. Currently, about 80% of the market is comprised of
spending on home-grown solutions, companies that build out their own
commerce platform. So our addressable market for packaged applications
is about $2 billion. However, over the next several years, Forrester
and Gartner see companies eliminating homegrown code and replacing it
with commercial off-the-shelf solutions. In fact, they estimate that
our addressable market will more than double due to this transition.
Our largest competitor for licensed applications is IBM. We also offer
an on-demand solution ' and our competitors for this offering are
Amazon, DemandWare, and GSI Commerce. For customer care only
applications, our largest competitor is RightNow Technologies.
