TWST: Could we begin with a brief historical sketch of Neoware
Systems and an overview of things as they are now? Mr. Kantrowitz: Neoware is a provider of software, services and
managed thin client appliances. These are very interesting
devices that have no hard drive, no floppy and no CD-ROM. They're
sold to businesses and they're alternatives to personal
computers, that help companies lower the cost of deploying and
maintaining applications on wired or wireless networks. So it's a
new architecture that's sold as a way for organizations to reduce
their upfront costs and reduce their ongoing cost of operation,
which is very interesting for companies today, given the
constraints in IT spending. TWST: From what I've read about your company, the savings are
substantial. Kantrowitz: They are substantial, especially for
organizations that have distributed networks and many remote
locations. The cost of deploying PCs into those environments is
prohibitively costly and thin clients are an excellent
alternative. Thin clients can cost less than half of a PC, so the
initial capital investment is reduced. It is said that for
approximately every 50 PCs it is necessary to maintain a system
administrator. This is not true with thin clients due to central
administration; therefore, this cost is also saved.
