Mr. Landon: Meritage Corporation is a national, single-family homebuilder. We build homes in the south and west in Texas, Arizona, and California. Most recently, we just entered Nevada through an acquisition. In 2002, we will build just over 4,000 homes and will surpass $1 billion in revenues for the first time. We have been a public builder for a little over five years.
TWST: What are your criteria for selecting cities, states and
homebuilding sites?
Mr. Landon: We go through quite an underwriting process. We look
at cities where we feel demand will exist not only today but also
tomorrow. We look at the top housing markets in the country,
where job growth appears to be strong, where we can offer the
product we deliver best ' a single-family, detached home in a
good location and with an impressive price-value relationship
