Phillips Petroleum Company (NYSE:P);

Three analysts and top management from three sector firms examine the integrated oil producers sector in this special 37-page Integrated Oil Producers issue from The Wall Street Transcript, available at (212/952-7433) or http://www.twst.com/info/info518.htm

“I think Jim Mulva, CEO of Phillips, has really stood out as one of the top managers in the field,” a leading analyst reports. “Phillips itself is one of the top companies. Specifically, Mulva has dramatically changed the nature of Phillips. Mulva took Phillips, which was already an integrated oil company, and through acquisition, he essentially created a whole new integrated oil company 3 times the one he started with. The acquisitions of ARCO Alaska and Tosco put together doubled the size of Phillips. Now, Mulva is in the process of merging Phillips with Conoco on a very favorable basis for Phillips’ shareholders. So Phillips has essentially gone from one integrated oil company to three integrated oil companies in terms of size, each one of the three of similar magnitude. It’s all been really good for Phillips’ shareholders. Mulva has been the catalyst for Phillips’ growth. He took opportunities to grow Phillips and really give something back to shareholders. In that regard, he really stands out in the integrated oil business.

Another analyst with differing views comments, “In terms of what I would consider to be management-driven, I’m not sure I can highlight too much at Phillips. Most of what’s happened in a positive sense over the past 12-18 months has been a function of OPEC and commodity prices. Management has succeeded in staying out of the way and not screwing anything up. Phillips is in a great position and is one of the leading companies in the sector but I’m not sure that has anything to do with Jim Mulva.”
