On Assignment, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASGN);

Five analysts and top management from four sector firms examine the human capital management sector in this special 54-page Human Capital Management issue from The Wall Street Transcript, available at (212/952-7433) or http://www.twst.com/info/info483.htm.

“In this difficult revenue cycle, management at On Assignment has done a solid job of managing cost,” reports an industry pro. “On Assignment has the advantage of being in a less economically sensitive area because their exposure is primarily in lab staffing and healthcare financial staffing. That has given On Assignment an advantage over traditional staffing firms. That said, On Assignment recognized the downturn very early in the first quarter of 2001. They quickly changed their training and recruiting programs. On Assignment focused on account managers who would be capable of selling the capabilities of the company to potential hiring managers as opposed to strictly attempting to attract local candidates. These were precisely the skills needed most during the tight labor markets of 1999 and 2000. Being quick on their feet has been the key to success at On Assignment.

“It has been interesting to watch the management changes at On Assignment,” another analyst adds. “Tom Buelter, who has been there for a number of years, brought in Joe Peterson from the outside to head On Assignment. As a result, former President and COO Kathy West left. So both Buelter and West are gone from running On Assignment. While there has not been much time to assess Peterson, I worry that there will be a lot of execution issues at On Assignment.”
