TWST: Could we start with a brief overview of the history and evolution of FBL Financial Group, Inc.?
Mr. Noyce: FBL Financial Group itself, which is the publicly traded holding company, it's traded on the New York Stock Exchange, was formed, I believe, in 1993. It was really created when two Farm Bureau affiliated life insurance carriers were being consolidated, one being Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, and Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company at the time operated in six states. The other was Western Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company. Western Farm Bureau Life, although a smaller company, operated in eight states. So through that consolidation the two entities combined became a 14-state operation and the transaction itself occurred through a stock exchange of the owners of Farm Bureau Life and the owners of Western Farm Bureau Life receiving ownership in FBL Financial Group. So, at that point in time, FBL Financial Group was privately owned by these Farm Bureau related entities, either Farm Bureau federations or affiliated property/casualty companies. In 1996, for a variety of reasons, FBL Financial Group made a decision to go public and did so in 1996, did a public offering of its stock. The Farm Bureau entities still are significant owners ' in fact, in total own about 70% of the stock ' and then the other 30% is now traded on the New York Stock Exchange. If you want further history, the entity of Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company actually goes back to the mid-1940s as a life insurance carrier that was created mainly to provide life insurance products to rural Farm Bureau members. At that time, life insurance was not as available to the people in the Midwest, rural United States, so that was one of the main reasons the Farm Bureau affiliated insurance companies were established. And that still is a very significant purpose for them today is to provide those financial services, life insurance, etc., to the Farm Bureau membership.
