Mr. Liu: The Knot just recently crossed its fifth anniversary. We originally launched the site back in September 1996 on AOL and have subsequently built the largest online wedding resource as well as the largest local wedding magazine publisher through our Weddingpages company-owned and franchise markets. We have essentially created a new brand in the wedding space ' which was our mission five years ago ' and our mission moving forward is to significantly expand on the services and products that we offer to brides and grooms as well as to the e- tailers, vendors and the manufacturers who are looking to reach this key demographic group.
TWST: Are you offering things that no one else in this space has been
offering?
Mr. Liu: Yes. I think it's more the service that we provide in terms of
aggregating the different services and information. Prior to The Knot
and, specifically prior to the Internet, there really was no single
destination where you could plan your entire wedding, find your
caterers, photographers, musicians, browse locations, find out what the
marriage license requirements are in your local area, register for
gifts, book a honeymoon, find the wedding gown. All of these things were
multiple individual tasks that had to be done in very separate places.
Our mission with The Knot was to create a single destination for a bride
and groom who are really pressed for time, thereby make the planning
process that much easier. What we've been able to successfully do is
attract close to 1.8 million unique users every single month. At this
point, we're registering well over 3,000 couples every day, making us
undeniably the largest wedding resource in the world.
