TWST: Can we start out with a quick overview of the company as you see it today?
Mr. Chandler: UnumProvident, for those less familiar, is a company that was formed in June 1999 with the merger of Provident Companies, Inc., and UNUM Corporation. Both of these are 100 year old plus insurance companies and, in fact, the merging of these companies followed the merger of Provident with the Paul Revere Insurance Company in March 1997. So in a span of roughly 27 months, we saw the three leading disability insurance companies come together to form one new enterprise.

TWST: What's the mix of business today?
Mr. Chandler: The mix of business is predominantly disability insurance and related coverages that would include life insurance, particularly group life sold through the employer, as well as what is referred to as voluntary benefits, where you have employee paid products being sold where they work. They supplement the employer paid products by allowing employees through payroll deduction to buy supplemental disability, life insurance and, in some cases, other dread disease type coverages.
