Mr. Westermann: From its inception, 22 years ago, the company was involved in imaging. It started by developing software for satellites. At the same time, Medasys became a value-added reseller for Hewlett Packard computers. Today the company is involved in two activities: it provides computer infrastructure and solutions to industry, to services - banking and insurance - and to retail chains, as well as to the healthcare field. In this area, we supply large systems and servers operating under UNIX (IBM AIX and HP-UX) or Linux. And we install the middle-ware that goes with it, to allow the tuning of databases – mostly Oracle -, assure high reliability, ensure security, enable networking and deliver all the services all that make a real computer system work. The other activity, which is complementary to the first one, is the logical continuation of our involvement in imaging- and then later in medical imaging. In this field, we provide a complete set of clinical software for hospitals. By clinical software, I mean laboratory information systems, radiology information systems, picture archiving and communication systems, electronic patient record and all the various computer tools that are necessary to operate them successfully.
TWST: Can you describe the competitive landscape and how you see yourself positioned in the space?
Mr. Westermann: Our Company is positioned in a very particular field, which is clinical medical software. Most hospitals are currently using computer systems essentially for administrative work whereas; we saw the healthcare field as an area of production of care. In every industry, except healthcare, every body talks about production of something; be it a product or a service. Healthcare, because it has got this mythical connotation that is related to everyone of us, seems to be a different world. People speak about cost of care, they speak about quality of care, but nobody really dares say that, after all, a hospital is only a place where you produce care.
