A money manager offers his opinion on the great vision and value creation of BRE Properties (NYSE:BRE), headed by President & CEO Frank C. McDowell.

“So McDowell began taking BRE in a development direction and has maintained a focus out on the West Coast in the Mountain States. Additionally, they have developed something in-house called Velocity HSI (the HSI part stands for High-Speed Internet). They’re delivering high-speed Internet through T-1 access lines, and they’re rolling it out through all of their properties. BRE is actually going to be spinning out that company to the public, as opposed to keeping it in the REIT vehicle. Now this is great vision and value creation. They’ve seen an opportunity and they’ve worked with it. They’ve also had the ability to transition the company. Now the technology stuff has more sizzle to it, but even transitioning the company back in late 1997 from an acquisition story into involvement-oriented organization shows great vision and leadership."
