Dr. Odidi: IntelliPharmaCeutics International is a specialty pharmaceutical development company focused on difficult-to-formulate, controlled-release generic and branded drugs. I founded the predecessor company to IntelliPharmaCeutics International with my spouse, Dr. Amina Odidi, in 1998. Since our founding, we have expanded our premises twice and have put together an array of core assets, including seven proprietary drug delivery technologies, issued and pending patents, and a growing pipeline of Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) and New drug Application (NDA) product candidates. We also have a successful history of establishing collaborative development and licensing arrangements with respected pharmaceutical companies. These arrangements are based on our drug development competence and well-earned trust. The focus of these relationships is directed to getting the best drug product to market in the shortest possible time. Our core technology is called Hypermatrix, a robust, validated, and proprietary technology platform that we have used to build a diverse pipeline of 15 generic and new drugs, with the underling brand sales of these targeted drugs being $15 billion. Our lead product, generic Focalin XR¨, is filed with the FDA and is partnered with Par pharmaceutical. We are also developing Rexistaª, a new drug product designed to overcome the well-documented abuses associated with oxycodone, a multibillion-dollar-selling compound. In October of last year, we completed a reverse takeover to become a publicly traded entity, and our shares began trading on the Nasdaq and Toronto Stock Exchanges.
TWST: You mentioned the drug delivery platform, the controlled-release drug delivery platform. How does that look?
Dr. Odidi: We believe that our Hypermatrixª technology is a revolutionary and robust controlled-release drug delivery platform. Hypermatrix is our core proprietary technology platform. It is a drug matrix technology defined as five dimensional in nature, encompassing length, height, width, space and time. Understanding and controlling of properties associated with these dimensions facilitates time-released delivery of a wide range of pharmaceuticals. Essentially this a very robust and flexible technology that allows us to delivery virtually any active pharmaceutical ingredient or drug to the body in the right amount, in the right place and at the right time.
The Hypermatrix platform works within the human body, responding to the multivariate external environment of the gastro-intestinal tract (GIT), releasing drug at the desired time and according to the desired profile. All this is achieved with spatial recognition and control of the optimum GIT site for drug release; defensive control over adverse factors, such as food effects or excess acidity; temporal control over the time when drug release commences or ends; structural control over the physical characteristics of the solid dosage form from ingestion to full release; rate control over the entire release profile to deliver true "intelligent" extended release.
We apply Hypermatrix together with our extensive expertise in pharmaceutics, drug delivery and drug manufacture with the goal of minimizing the risk, time and manufacturing cost of bringing high-value finished products to market. We use this technology to both develop our internal pipeline and to assist other pharmaceutical companies with product development.
