TWST: Would you give us a brief historical sketch of the company and a picture
of the things you're doing at the present time? Mr. Gordon: The company was founded in January 2004. BlastGard International was
created to design, develop, and market blast mitigation products. Jack and I
invented a blast mitigation packaging concept that is now known as BlastWrap.
BlastWrap is a passive mitigation system that interacts with an explosion both
chemically and mechanically. Our attenuating material dissipates the effects of
an explosion by reducing the blast pressures or shock waves of the explosion
minimally 50% and up to 90% with distance. Simultaneously the fusible salts
eliminate the thermal energy by suppressing the flash and quenching the fireball
of the explosion, all within 5 milliseconds. That is the magic of BlastWrap. The
event is over in milliseconds TWST: What is BlastWrap made of? Mr. Gordon: BlastWrap is made up of two thin flexible films, arranged one over
the other and joined by a plurality of seams. The film is referred to as a top
web and bottom web. The bottom web is configured (thermoformed) into various
sizes, shapes, and depths depending upon the required application. The cavities
of the bottom web are filled with a two phase material, which are usually
volcanic glass beads and a blend of fusible salts. BlastWrap can be wrapped
around or conformed to any shape and has an unlimited shelf life.
