TWST: May we start with a brief company introduction and a short history? Mr. Benrey: I started Trovix with Earl Rennison, Co-Founder of the company, in
2002 with the purpose of trying to help people make faster decisions based on
complex data analysis. We looked at applying our search technology to areas such
as pharmaceutical drug discovery, financial research, competitive intelligence,
and settled on the concept of helping all companies in all industries to find
and hire the best people by analyzing resumes matching them against open
positions. To do so, we built a search engine from the ground up with several
key components, including contextual, conceptual and personalized search. TWST: Could you give us further insight into your search technology including
the offerings within the product? Mr. Benrey: We developed all of the technologies ourselves from ground up.
There are three parts to our core technology on the search side. The number one
item is to be able to extract unstructured data. So, in this case, information
on resumes is mapped against a known universe of knowledge. This is key, because
if you don't have the right information, then you essentially have garbage in
and garbage out - it doesn't matter how good a search engine you have.
The second piece of technology is on the search side itself -- multi-layering
search on multiple factors such as the recency of positions, of skills, how many
years they have done it, depth in a particular area, the field, also how many
people have that kind of skill. That is, looking at a comparative scoring, and
we do so on-the-fly, a feature that is also a key differentiator for Trovix
because we are able to do very complex searches in real time.
And lastly, the third component, is our ability to personalize search results
for the users. Often preferences are not known until outcomes are experienced.
In this case, hiring managers, or recruiters who act on their behalf, are able
to rate candidates. The system dynamically starts learning these implicit
preferences for particular managers, positions, groups and companies. We put all
three of these together, and that comprises, collectively, about eight patents
worth of technology just for the core offering for our product. In addition to
that, we built an entire applicant tracking system, Trovix Recruit, to help
companies collaboratively use software to find and hire the best possible
candidates.
