TWST: Would you begin by explaining the structure of the company?
Dr. Kumar: CombiMatrix is one of two operating divisions of Acacia
Research Corporation. Each of those operating divisions operates
independently, and is traded on its own ticker symbol on the NASDAQ
national stock exchange.
TWST: Would you outline the history of CombiMatrix and explain the main
things that you are doing at the present time?
Dr. Kumar: CombiMatrix was founded in the mid-1990s. It was founded
around a core technology that utilizes a semiconductor to perform
chemical reactions on a chip using microelectric arrays that have been
fabricated on that chip through standard CMOS lithography. The first
application of that technology is in the genetic analysis space, and we
sell a suite of products in and around that core technology that
includes instrumentation, software, reagents, chips of different types
as well as diagnostic chips through product sales and services.
