TWST: What is Axcess International? Mr. Griebenow: Axcess International provides RFID solutions for
enterprise asset management, access control, and physical security.
'RFID' stands for radio frequency identification, and in simple terms,
we provide wireless tags or ID cards that can automatically locate,
identify, track, monitor and protect a number of things, including
computers, inventory, vehicles and people. They are typically used for
personnel and vehicle access control, as well as asset management in
enterprise and in government. TWST: Give us a broader view of the RFID markets. What are the trends,
issues and the market niche that you are focused on? What do you think
the ultimate differentiators are for competition? Mr. Griebenow: RIFD came on the scene about two years ago with the Wal-
Mart initiative to tag items in the retail supply chain. That particular
technology is called passive technology, and it's focused on the supply
chain. What Axcess provides are active RFID tags, which are
differentiated because they have batteries attached to them. The
batteries provide additional range and flexibility and are necessary to
tag and automatically read other items in the enterprise. While Wal-
Mart's initiative has helped turbo charge the market, that technology is
only one element of the technology that is being applied today in
business. Again, our technology is active RFID, where we can tag
everything else around the supply chain for enterprise or for
government. We continue to see the Wal-Mart initiative provide awareness
in the marketplace regarding the potential for RFID, and what we've been
able to do most recently is provide reference installations in a number
of industries with specific customers that are implementing RFID for
various purposes ' for asset management such as key IT assets to protect
personal privacy information and corporate information, as well as for
locating people in and around the facility to provide more productivity
to the enterprise. And we provide the same kind of automatic
identification capability for vehicles going in and out of the facility
for security and enterprise productivity feature. The key
differentiators in this active RFID market are cost of ownership and
system performance, both of which we excel in.
