TWST: Would you give us a brief historical sketch of the company and a
picture of the things you are doing at the present time? Mr. Lombardo: For the last 45 years, E-Z-EM has been dedicated to
bringing innovative solutions into the area of the diagnosis of
abdominal disease, particularly with contrast products used in the
detection of disease in the GI tract. It has had a particular focus over
the last several years in the colorectal cancer area. It has been a
pioneer both in conventional imaging for colorectal cancer as well as
for new, emerging technologies such as virtual colonoscopy. The company
has a broad range of products and solutions in terms of contrast agents
specifically designed for the GI tract and available for both adult and
pediatric patients. It also has a wide range of devices, particularly
those associated with the delivery of injectable contrast material as
represented by our EmpowerCTA' dual-headed injector system. Over the
years, the company has been extremely entrepreneurial with successful
spinouts such as AngioDynamics, which is traded on NASDAQ under the
symbol ANGO. This was spun out a little less than two years ago, and was
one of the most successful IPOs in the medical device arena. It is a
company that is focused on peripheral vascular disease. In the past, E-
Z-EM also developed specialty devices in the orthopedic interventional
radiology area, which we subsequently sold to US Surgical. Today, we
have also embarked upon a new area in the company, which is a skin
decontamination system that is being adopted by the US military as the
next-generation chemical warfare detox agent. So the company has a rich,
strong history in abdominal imaging, basically pioneering the art of
abdominal imaging. It has also been entrepreneurial over its history in
areas that have been either closely aligned, or in areas where the
company had a particular expertise that it was able to leverage, such as
our new skin decontamination system, RSDL_.
