TWST: What is CON-SPACE Communications?
Mr. Swanson: CON-SPACE Communications was started about 13 years ago for the purpose of designing and manufacturing specialty voice communications equipment. We had discovered that, prior to our organization, no one had developed communication equipment for people who operate in confined spaces, hazardous atmospheres, potentially explosive atmospheres, and high noise environments. We had a request from Canadian Airlines to supply them with unique intercom equipment that would allow their safety personnel to supervise workers inside the wings of jet aircraft when doing maintenance work in the fuel cells. To this point, they had no way to communicate with those people other than yelling and tapping, and that was not convenient or conducive to safety. We had built a few basic systems for Canadian Airlines that would provide the safety attendants outside with the ability to communicate instantly with the workers inside the fuel cells. When Canadian told us no other such equipment existed, we decided to investigate. After doing numerous studies in the North American and world market, we determined that there was no such equipment available for people who operate in confined spaces and hazardous atmospheres. So we did further market studies to determine what such equipment should be capable of and what customers and users would need. Then we started developing such a product. That was in late 1990. In 1991, we went full tilt into the design of equipment and the starting up of our basics for manufacturing. Manufacturing physically started in 1992, and our first sale of productions units was July 1, 1992 ' that's also the year that we became a public company. We currently trade on the Toronto Venture Exchange under the symbol of CCB. Through the years we have grown, developed new products and grown again. Sales have grown every year since we started and we expect that process to continue. CON-SPACE is a profitable company and has positive earnings. It is our plan that our future will be through not only internal growth, but also expanding through acquisitions.
