Mr. Itin: Ajay has been in the sporting goods business for over 60 years, and its most recent activity has been operating Pro Golf of America, which is a 42-year-old company and is involved in golf retail worldwide. Pro Golf is the largest golf retailer in the world and it is, by far, the largest franchising system for golf in the world.
TWST: The company has had some difficulties in recent years.
Mr. Itin: Yes, Ajay had considerable difficulty in the late 1990s, early
2000, where they had been in the golf equipment manufacturing business '
golf bags, golf carts and accessories, mostly selling to the Big Box.
That business shifted after 1995, primarily due to direct purchases
being made by Wal-Mart, Kmart and Target. Ajay had not been
manufacturing much in the US; Ajay had a facility in Mexico and was
purchasing products from the Pacific Rim. Ajay went out of that business
in about 2000 or 2001, and has not been manufacturing or importing
directly since that time.
