TWST: Would you begin with a brief historical sketch of Polycom, Inc., and a picture of the company at the present time?
Mr. Hagerty: Polycom is a globally deployed collaborative communication supplier. We started in the early 1990s as a company that provided conference phones to major corporations. Since then, through extensive investment in innovation and through a handful of strategic acquisitions, we have become the leading provider of voice, video, data, and Web collaboration tools to the Global 2000 government, education, and healthcare industries.

TWST: What have been your guiding principles regarding acquisitions?
Mr. Hagerty: We look for acquisitions that are synergistic with our current platforms, can enhance the collaborative communication paradigm that we have built out, and are accretive to our revenue and profit growth.

TWST: Would you tell us about the circumstances that led to the founding of the company?
Mr. Hagerty: The company was a spinout. The Founder of PictureTel had spun out and started his own company before there were high quality speakerphones in the early 1990s. Then, through a series of acquisitions, we acquired our former parent, PictureTel.
