TWST: We'd like to begin with a brief historical sketch of Choice Hotels and a picture of the things you're doing at the present time.Mr. Goldberg: Choice Hotels is one of the world's largest lodging franchisors. We have more than 5,000 hotels open or under development in more than 40 countries under the brand names of Clarion, Quality, Comfort Suites, Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, MainStay Suites, Econo Lodge, Rodeway and our two newest brands, Cambria Suites and Suburban Extended Stay Hotels. We have hotels in every segment of the market from economy up through lower upscale, as well as extended stay at many different price points, meeting the needs of many different guests and owners.
TWST: How long has the company been in existence?
Mr. Goldberg: The company was founded in 1939 and we actually were the
first hotel chain. The first chain was Quality Courts, which has now
become Quality Inn. It started as a small association of a handful of
independent hotel owners who got together and created the idea of
branded hotels.
