Mr. Collette: Narad Networks provides switched broadband access solutions that enable cable television operators to leverage their existing coaxial cable and flexibly use fiber and wireless media to deliver high capacity, high performance IP services such as voice, data, video, and enterprise networks.
TWST: So, cable is your basic market?
Mr. Collette: It is today. Over the next two to three years, however, our market
focus will expand to include telco and broadband over powerline.
TWST: Could you elaborate on the major components of your solutions?
Mr. Collette: Narad's switched Ethernet solution is comprised of a few key
elements, the first of which are outdoor fiber Ethernet switches that also
provide fiber speed and performance over coax. These switches can be placed
anywhere, moving the edge of the network deep into the access network.
We connect directly with these switches using off-the-shelf connectors called
Gigabit Ethernet cards. Ethernet capacity is then delivered to customer premise
equipment. The CPE can be commercial or residential; it can be coaxial cable
modem or it can be fiber.
Finally, the network as a whole is managed by a central software platform which
automates installation, service creation, provisioning, network monitoring, and
fault isolation functions.
Narad's platform is designed to overlay onto the existing cable system without
having any impact on existing video, voice and data. We achieve this by
operating at frequencies on the coax above existing video, data and voice
traffic.
