TWST: May we start with a short company introduction ? Mr. Marolia: Bitfone Corporation was founded in 2000 providing solutions to
wireless operators and manufacturers for over-the-air device management. What
this means, is that as devices grow in complexity, so does the need to be able
to manage the software on the device, as well as all the configurations and
settings for enabling the new, advanced data services. Essentially Bitfone
provides technology for both the client on the handset, and the server
technology for the network that enables an easy over-the-air management of these
advance data services.
Bitfone's initial product offering was for firmware over-the-air. We pioneered
the technology that resides on the client, meaning that the FOTA technology is
embedded directly into the handset. This empowers our customers to send firmware
updates wirelessly, over-the-air, to any Bitfone enabled device and reflash its
core OS, right down to the metal. This is revolutionary, because prior to this
advancement, the status quo was to take malfunctioning phones into retail
centers or mail them to a service centers to have the phones reflashed. This
process took a number of days or weeks before consumers had their phones
returned to them. It was tremendously inconvenient the consumer and very costly
for the manufacturers and operators. With the latest OTA technology, we can now
offer upgrades over-the-air while the phone is still in customers' hands
enabling the software to be fully upgraded and reflashed. TWST: Could you elaborate on the features and functionalities of your solutions? Mr. Marolia: Bitfone sells two software solutions which target both wireless
handset manufacturers and operators. The first solution, called mProve, consists
of an Update Generator to create updates and an embedded client that enables the
phone to update its firmware in a fault tolerant manner. The Generator is able
to create very small updates by using an algorithm to compare binary images and
create instructions to change the old image into the new. A key feature of this
technology is that it results in an updated firmware image of the phone that is
bit-for-bit identical to original source image.
Our other software solution is called FusionDM which is a server offering sold
mainly to wireless operators. This solution provides a comprehensive device
management solution that enables full remote management of all devices that
support the OMA-DM protocol. The OMA-DM protocol is a standards based protocol
developed by the Open Mobile Alliance which Bitfone has been a key contributor.
FusionDM enables remote updating, configuration, and diagnosis of wireless
devices and services. It has a huge impact on the industry to reduce support
costs and improve ARPU by enabling compelling data services.
