TWST: May we start with an overview of your company and solutions? Mr. Tippets: Helius is a 10-year old company. We were founded in 1995 by two
individuals who wanted to do Internet Protocol (IP) networking over satellite.
At the time, they were working for Novell and there wasn't an interest there. So
they left Novell and formed Helius. As they entered into that business, they
realized very quickly that the primary use of satellite technology at that time
was to move video. So they became very involved in mixing Internet Protocol and
video. Today, when people ask about our core competency, we respond that it is
IP video.
We have been a software engineering firm since the beginning. We have done a few
OEM deals, where larger organizations licensed our software technology and used
it in their own products. About four years ago, the Board of Directors decided
that there was commercial opportunity for Helius branded applications and
solutions. The board brought in a new management team with commercial software
experience and we have grown the business to what it is now.
Our core products are software applications that do Internet Protocol video (or
IP video). The two we are most known for today are MediaSignage (our digital
signage application) and MediaClassroom (our suite of training and learning
tools). TWST: Do you still focus your solutions on extending the capabilities of
satellite systems? Mr. Tippets: We consider satellite to be a connectivity option for our
applications. We develop our applications to work in an environment that is
satellite connected, terrestrial broadband connected, and most recently cellular
IP connected.
