Mr. Haddrill: We have the broadest offering of technology to the gaming industry, everything from central systems to managed casinos and gaming machines to video gaming machines, mechanical spinning wheel machines, as well as table technology that monitors table game play.
TWST: In today's environment, how important is technology in the casino
business?
Mr. Haddrill: Increasingly important. Like most businesses, the pace of
change is faster and faster. Ultimately we are in the entertainment
business and providing technology that helps create entertaining gaming
machines for players and technology that our casino customers need to
manage their properties and communicate with their players is becoming
increasingly important in our space. The pace of change is definitely
accelerating.
TWST: Who are you competing with in providing these technologies? Is it
typically in-house?
Mr. Haddrill: Some of the properties do have in-house development
staffs, but there are various competitors in various parts of our
business. In gaming machines, for example, we'll compete with
Aristocrat, WMS, and IGT. In the central systems business, we compete
with IGT and Aristocrat. And in the table game technology, we compete
with Progressive Gaming and Shuffle Master.
