Mr. Horan: I'm somewhat unique in that I follow most communication services, both wireline, wireless and cable, including both incumbent and emerging companies. The incumbent wireline carriers include AT&T, Verizon, CenturyLink and Windstream, among others. In wireless we follow Sprint, American Tower, Crown Castle, MetroPCS, Leap and others. On the emerging wireline side, we follow some of the CLECs, like TW Telecom and PAETEC and Level 3.
TWST: What are the major trends that you see emerging in these different sectors?
Mr. Horan: The major trend right now is smartphones, and this is driving a convergence between communications, computing, entertainment, and it's really causing a lot of disruption in the industry. These new devices are seeing amazing innovation in applications because they are not controlled by the service providers. The best example of these trends are in devices like the Droid, the Samsung Galaxy and Apple's iPad and the iPhone.
