Mr. Bick: Cottingham Management Company has been around for five years now. Cottingham Development Fund was launched in July 2008. The strategy is based on a macro outlook that determines allocations to small-cap stocks along with commodities and futures to enhance returns, both on the long and the short side.
TWST: What is the specialty of the firm and its investment philosophy?
Mr. Bick: The specialty of the firm really has been, for many years, stock picking. We also include technical analysis to determine entry and exit points. Furthermore, if commodities and the futures are showing certain signs of breaking out either way, to the upside or the downside, then we use our stock picking skills to enhance those returns by finding stocks that will benefit from this move, either as a long or a short candidate. Outside of commodity-based trades, it's really stock picking based on value and momentum.
