TWST: Would you tell us about recent trends and developments in the segments of the semiconductor sector that you cover?
Mr. Harrison: We're focused primarily on communications infrastructure. We don't do a whole lot with PCs and wireless, and things like that. Our coverage includes subsectors in the consumer market, like home networking, the access market, which is telco-oriented, and data centers. In general, we focus more on secular trends rather than trying to pinpoint cycles. We tend to focus on the kind of trends that will have a greater or lesser impact on the macro trends. What we've seen so far in 2009 has been the impact of Asia putting in place broadband connectivity. That's been led primarily by efforts in China. When you talk about efforts in China, it's important to differentiate. There are really two opportunities occurring at the time. One is in wireless. Asia and China in particular is getting to a point where communications, whether they are in the rural areas or in the city, wireless connectivity is a reality. The first thing we're seeing is that the three primary Chinese carriers all received their 3G licenses, and they are beginning to build out their infrastructure and reach out to the consumer. We've seen early handset and wireless infrastructure - that is, base stations and other things being built in cities and, increasingly, rural areas. In doing so, you've got to put the infrastructure in place, which connects all these base stations and backhauling. So on one hand, you're building out the base station. You then have to go out and get people to sign up for handsets. Once you get all this in place, you've got to figure out a way to backhaul the traffic. At one point, it was just voice traffic and it was much simpler. But now, you've also got voice, video and data all traveling on the same signal. So you've got to have an infrastructure in place that is able to manage all the different traffic types.
