Matthew J. Cox

Matson (MATX)

Matthew J. Cox is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Matson. He joined Matson in June 2001 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In 2005, he became Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He had a key role in the startup of Matson's China - Long Beach Express in 2006. In addition to his Matson responsibilities, Mr. Cox is also a member of the board of managers of SSAT, a stevedoring joint venture. Before Matson, he had 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, 12 of which were spent at American President Lines, Ltd. From 1999 to 2001, he held executive posts at Distribution Dynamics, Inc., a provider of outsourced logistics, inventory management and integrated information systems based in Danville, Calif. He was the company's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the time he joined Matson. From 1987 to 1999, Mr. Cox held positions of increasing responsibility at American President Lines, covering financial and operational aspects of the company, including Vice President, refrigerated container market; Managing Director, Middle East, Africa, Indian Subcontinent Region, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Director, financial support services. Mr. Cox serves on the board of the Standard Club and the Children's Hospital of Oakland. He has a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.
